In the past, I don't know what I would have said to the question, "What's your favorite movie?" But after watching Pixar's Soul with almost the whole fam yesterday, I think I can now give a confident answer. It was just such an exceptional movie.
I absolutely adore media that is able to teach you things and impact the way you live. That's why I love Your Lie in April so much. Soul was a movie that taught me about appreciation and how important it is to exercise it regularly. Because of Soul even, I'm going to add appreciation as a secondary theme for next year. My first one being attention.
I have to say, Soul is one of Pixar's funniest movies and its hands down best looking (the way the brass was animated!), most intellectual, and most mature one yet. It was so ambitious to tackle themes like death and the meaning of life, yet it nailed doing what it set out to accomplish. I think kids can learn a great deal from Soul, and they can even start conversations with their parents on these subjects because of this movie. Even though Pixar should've totally explored more the many interesting concepts/story-lines they introduced, I feel that they executed the main story of the movie extremely well - to the point where tears were falling from my face.
It's nice ending the year with a movie as profound as this one and bringing along the lessons it has granted me (and to you too if you haven't watched it already!) to the next. I do plan on re-watching it; I just don't know when I should set the date. (Probably shouldn't watch it so soon though :P)
Be kind and keep striving!
P.S. - If you want to know more about themes for the year and why they're so much better than new year's resolutions, watch this super insightful video by CGP Grey: https://youtu.be/NVGuFdX5guE
I have yet to watch both of those things but I plan to as I've only heard good about them. The theme thing is interesting thanks for sharing. I need to think about what I would want mine to be...
