Beach Day

In one of my previous entries, I mentioned trying to decide if I was going to a beach day with friends. I decided to go and I am so glad I did. We arrived around 11 am because we picked up friends a little later than planned and we stopped at McDonald's and Starbucks along the way. We got lucky and found parking. The only real hiccup was the steep pathways down to the beach and with me using my crutches and thin layers of sand were sketchy as heck. It was a learning experience, as we had never been there before.

Once we got settled it didn't take us long to end up in the water. I am not a strong swimmer. I can save myself from drowning at least. I am not comfortable in deep water, so I stayed near the shallow end. I had forgotten how much I love swimming. It is completely physical freedom for me from my cerebral palsy because the water holds me up. We swam around for a few hours before getting out for lunch. I should have put sunscreen on then,

We ate lunch and sat around chatting before handing back for another round of swimming. Eventually, it hit us and we were done for the day. The ride home was quiet because we were all so tired. It wasn't until we got to my house that my friend commented that I looked red. I brushed it off until I saw myself in the mirror.

Needless to say, lesson learned. I have come away from today with burned shoulders and face. The shoulders got the worst of it My face doesn't;t really hurt. It has been a very long time since I had a day like today and despite the hiccups with getting down to the beach and turning into a tomato, I had a blast and really want to make swimming part of my lifestyle now. It made me feel really good physically.

I will sleep well tonight.

I will add pictures tomorrow. None with my friends, as I haven't asked permission.
