“We’re gonna beat P8S1 this weekend,” said numbers on Wednesday as he sent out the weekly call for raid. Attached was a baseball pic.
Dante said, “For those who do not understand the sports ball reference, numbers has just ‘called his shot’ before going up to bat, aka claimed he will knock it out of the park.”
“Thank you for your service, Dante,” said numbers.
“The shadow is misleading,” said KJH. “He’s actually calling out a foul ball.”
“It’s a foul ball if we ended up not raiding this weekend,” said numbers.
Then Saturday afternoon came and Dante couldn’t log in to FFXIV. It was wild. He was playing earlier that day without issue. But at raid time, when he tried to open the launcher, he got a system error.
“I cannot believe Yoshi P would sabotage us like this,” said Kan.
numbers said, “This is all my fault for saying we were going to beat it this weekend. My hubris has doomed us all.”
(Meanwhile, Dante, in the background: “I seem to have ruined everything. I seem to no longer have internet at all.”)
quof from GGG agreed to fill in for him. True heroism: filling in for another static’s Agdistis reclear. I didn’t even want to do our own Agdistis reclear. quof did remarkably well with our rapidfire explanation of all the ways our strats differ from GGG; notably, we don’t do sleepo purgation (we have separate spread/stack platforms) and I think our third harvest is totally different too. We had an amusing wipe during the first inviolate bonds because nobody, myself included, thought to tell quof where the dps II stack was.
After clearing Agdistis, we had around half an hour to practice Hephaistos (no prog, but we did get to fourfold flames twice). By Sunday, Dante had his issues fixed and we were good to go. Sadly, we did not clear. We’re maybe 75% competent on snakes 1 (I improved significantly, quite happy with my progress here); dog 1 is easy street; but we have only a vague idea what is up with snakes 2/dog 2. For that last “we” I’m of course excluding the four people who have done the duty before, and numbers who is composing all the strats, so a minority of the party etc.
