head honcho big boncho

Mom’s kind of a big deal now, work-wise. I already knew this, but it still feels weird. On Friday she was going to meet Dad and me for lunch, and she pulled up her scheduling spreadsheet and was like, okay, I cleared time from noon to 2 pm. A scheduling spreadsheet?? Who does that?? Then one of her afternoon appointments got moved up so she had to leave earlier than planned.

And then on Saturday morning, she had to go in to work to give a speech for, I dunno, some kind of initiative or opening ceremony. I woke up to use the restroom at 5:30 am and, as I was going back to sleep, I heard a clink from the microwave downstairs. I realized Mom was getting breakfast because she was getting ready for work. Yikes!! I say that, but she seems to be loving her new job. Thriving, in her lane, etc. It’s not for me, but I’m glad she’s having fun.

For myself, I had a normal chill Saturday morning—I slept in, had a nice morning walk, enjoyed morning mocha in the sunroom, and then sat down at my laptop to browse the internet—but Mom got back from her work thing and then both my parents were bustling everywhere around the house. Cleaning, packing, etc. (They’re meeting another friend upstate and spending the night.) I was like, it’s Saturday morning though? Chill a bit? Maybe this is why roommate gets irritated when I bustle around the house preparing for a trip. I’ve never experienced it from the other side.

The rest of the day went about as expected: car ride home, Red Lobster for lunch, shopping, and then housecleaning. My parents gave me shockingly little sass about the state of the house. Not a word about the piles of mail on the broken computer desk. Mom even noticed I had vacuumed the living room recently. Not bad at all!
