who authorized Artfight starting a few days after the release of Dawntrail??
Dawntrail early access opened last Thursday. I’ve been barreling through this expansion by my own standards, playing several hours a day, which is to say that everyone else in the static is ahead of me, even meisnewbie. I completed the level 97 dungeon last night. So far, I wouldn’t say the plot is actually good, but at least I’m through the filler arc that was the first half, and I’m enjoying running around and doing quests and finding aether currents.
And then, right in the middle of my quest to become Dawnservant, Artfight dropped. I wasn’t planning on doing Artfight this year—I sat out the past couple years and my characters are a mess—but various people from the Habitica art server are playing, so I decided to go for it. That server is such good motivation.
Artfight’s scoring system is also good motivation, because you don’t get beans for an uncolored pen sketch (my go-to). Based on prior years, the ideal sweet spot for point farming is a halfbody or fullbody clean sketch with full color & shading and props. Switching it up is fun too. Going all out on a full background pic with polish is super satisfying.
But man, I forgot how much time this site eats up. Browsing characters, picking out ones that look fun to draw, deciding on composition and scenery…I spend so much more time scrolling the site and thinking about drawing than actually putting pen to paper. I also used to be highkey obsessed with my character roster. No time for that this year. I’m just rolling with what I have, though I did hide Raubritter because my official art of him is genuinely embarrassing (gotta get the old man a proper pic before next year). I should also add some Flight Rising reps, seeing as I would actually want art of them.
