Did Arcadion normals last night! I don’t have strong thoughts on the tier yet, except for the Queen Bee fight, which took us four tries to clear (pub queue). It was actually way more fun than a straightforward clear. Our third run was super close. We were at 8.9% with only the tanks and one dps surviving, and the tanks did a heroic job holding the line, but wiped at 2.4%. I can tell I’m going to be terrible at this fight in savage because I’m already terrible at the normal version, particularly the puddle/charm phase, which is all about dodging and reacting on the fly.
(I’m going to name a dragon Arcadion. Probably going to save it for my magenta soap breeding project.)
Man though, they are really pushing this “soul usage is bad” narrative. The Arcadion announcer was like “we use feral souls here” and I wanted to be like “okay, cool” but the only dialogue choices were “using souls is wrong” and “you should stop using souls” (this is a paraphrase, but the gist was identical).
It’s clear that excessive soul use is bad for the planet. The normal cycle of life is that when an individual passes away, their soul returns to the Lifestream, from which new life is born. Alexandria has so many souls tied up in its system that its Lifestream is running thin, resulting in reduced birth rates and subpar crop yields. They’re going to need societal change. But that doesn’t mean that all soul usage is bad. Souls are a natural resource that can and should be used responsibly. Like, say, trees. Excessive deforestation has severe consequences on the ecosystem and the planet. A lower level of sustainable logging is fine. You wouldn’t walk into a carpenter’s workshop and say “Actually, using wood is wrong.”
(There’s also the issue with soul necrosis, but I’m not giving WoL that one because he didn’t know about it at the time he made his statement.)
(Also I don’t buy that a bunch of extremely popular young celebrities could just vanish without anyone noticing/caring. This season’s plot is such a mess. What are the writers even doing)
