We still don’t know what this mystery illness is. Could be covid, could be something else. My own theory was that it’s a pathogen that has been frozen in glacial ice since time immemorial and has only now been released due to global warming. Roommate’s theory was that it’s the bubonic plague. I couldn’t refute this—I don’t know the symptoms of bubonic plague and didn’t feel like looking it up.
I had a relatively swift recovery, albeit with a long tail. As mentioned, Tuesday was the only day I particularly felt bad (aches, headaches). I’m not sure if I even had a fever. Wednesday I still had a painfully sore throat. By Thursday, I was fine except for dry coughing fits. Every time I was like, okay, I’m well now? COUGH COUGH COUGH. It was the worst when I lay down—I could feel the ticklish throat coming over me, and then it would be many rounds of coughing and hacking before I could finally drift off to sleep. It took until Monday for me to go to sleep properly without massive coughing jags.
Roommate has had a way worse time overall. Thursday and Friday he was running a fever of 102-104. By the weekend, his fever was coming down, but he still felt shitty and kept getting nosebleeds. Alan suggested he humidify his nose by taking a long steamy shower. Roommate was like ???
By Monday he had entered the “feeling better but violently coughing” phase. Rounding the corner. Confidence for the future (COUGH COUGH COUGH COUGH).
