facial memory

Been thinking about facial memory lately. This is the third time I’ve seen Kyle in person, and the second time I’ve seen Jasmine. I went in thinking I should try and remember what these people’s faces look like. I don’t think it stuck. If I saw them at work, I would recognize them by general body shape and context. If I bumped into them at the grocery store I probably wouldn’t. I dunno, man. People’s faces just look alike.

This is why I’m so skeptical of crime scene IDs. Like, I chatted with these people on-and-off throughout the day and had an hour and a half long lunch with them. As I sit here, I can’t picture their faces in my head. Now imagine a situation where you are just chilling on someone’s porch or walking to the drugstore, when a car pulls up, a gun muzzle sticks out the window, and shots start ringing out. You weren’t paying attention in the first place and then you’re panicking and fleeing. How are you going to accurately memorize facial details under those circumstances?
