It’s the actual inaugural week for the Going to the Office More Initiative, and the forecast had driving rain all day. I was concerned that it would be thunderstorming when I left home (and was prepared to call a last-second remote day if there was a lot of lightning), but thankfully the rains held off until I made it to the office.

It was pouring when I stepped out to grab something for lunch. It wasn’t going to be anything exciting. Tuesday has been penciled in as Just a Sandwich or Something Day, while Wednesday is the Real Downtown Lunch Day. On the plus side, I got to walk by the closed-down McDonalds on the corner. A few years back I was walking to work in single-digit weather and ducked into the lobby for warmth for just 20 seconds until the light changed, and security kicked me out. (What kind of McDonalds has security officers? This one, apparently.) Bunch of assholes. Glad they went out of business.

The dichotomy of my life: I’m watching Masterchef ft. the most stunning rack of venison, the perfectly cooked chocolate souffle, etc., and then I’m getting a sodden package of discount Walgreens sushi for lunch. (It looked better than any of the sandwiches.) I need to find a new quick-lunch spot. My go-to for soup & a croissant shut down in the pandemic.

I returned to the office to find a flash flood warning on my phone. Serious business out there. Had to call off my afternoon coffee run. It was rough going for a couple hours. Fortunately, there was a lull in the rain around 3:30, and Noah suggested we go home early before it started up again. Byee!
