Opening Up About My Journey with BPD and Mood Tracking

So, I’m here today to open up about something very personal — my experience with BPD, or Borderline Personality Disorder. I’ve struggled with this for as long as I can remember. Mental health has always been a major part of my life, but it’s only within the past year that I’ve become more aware of my emotions.

After four years of therapy, without missing a single session, I’ve finally started to recognize and better understand what I’m feeling. But even with this progress, I sometimes still stumble and fall into a dark place. It’s not easy, and it’s definitely not a linear journey. Some days are better than others.

But that’s why I’m here, sharing this with you. I want to be open about the ups and downs in the hope of creating a space where others feel less alone. I’m also working on something that has helped me and might help others too — an app to track and manage emotions, reflecting the reality of living with BPD.

I’ve been researching the mood trackers that are currently available, but to be honest, none of them have caught my attention. With BPD, my emotional state can shift so rapidly. I might wake up feeling okay, but by midday, I’m anxious, and by night, I could be euphoric. Sometimes, this rollercoaster of emotions happens within just a few hours.

For example, I could be happy one moment, then something small might trigger me, and I’d suddenly feel horrible. If I manage to pull myself out of those thoughts, I can quickly swing back to feeling euphoric, like nothing was ever wrong.

The problem with current apps is that they don’t give me the data I need to understand what’s really going on. Even though I experience a whirlwind of emotions in a single day, deep down, I know there’s a pattern to how I feel — I just haven’t found it yet. That’s why I’m building this app. The way I envision it, this app will help me track my emotions more accurately and, hopefully, allow me to finally see the patterns I’ve been searching for.

If anyone reading this feels like they could benefit from such a tool, or if you have insights to share, please consider helping by answering my form: What’s Your Experience with Mental Health and Mood Tracking Apps? Here’s the link. The opinion of those who face the raw challenges of mental health holds immense value and can truly help shape this project into something meaningful.

The form only takes 2 minutes to complete! Your input could make a real difference.
