Discovery: Factorio is actually really boring to watch. I’ve been using newbie and HGR’s stream almost exclusively as background audio, except when they reach a new planet, which isn’t often. But it does make me want to play the game.
I played a full game with HGR once, and then started a couple of my own games, both of which petered out around the time I hit oil. According to newbie, it’s common for people to stop playing the game there. Point is, I’m not sure if I’m going to stick with the game long enough to justify buying Space Age, seeing as I’ve never even gotten near the base endgame. But I kind of want to.
But I'm also in the middle of one of the greatest works of American literature, and have a three-book backlog besides that, so… maybe not. At least not at the moment. I’m not good at multitasking.
Also, gonna be honest, Gleba sounds intimidating. That planet’s gimmick is that all the planet-specific resources gradually rot over time. Everything’s got an expiration timer. newbie, who is basically a Factorio god, tried to reorganize the Gleba base and brought the whole thing to a halt because items were rotting in the stack inserters, causing them to stop working. It was an entire arc that HGR wasn’t around for because he is (by common acknowledgement) the smartest member of the server AND the laziest member of the server.

edit (11/6): HGR is of the opinion that Gleba is not that complicated; newbie was just making everything more difficult than it needed to be. Like, if he didn’t try and add stack inserters, they wouldn’t have broken the production line.
(This is the same mindset that had us carrying circuits by hand around our OG base for hours. Although I’m sure the pre-crisis Gleba base had far superior automation, considering newbie was there.)
meanwhile, newbie be like:
[12:43 AM] meisnewbie: anyway thinking about gleba a little more, I think doing direct insertion for mash / jelly and bioflux would have been better
[12:44 AM] meisnewbie: and then having raw yumako / jelly nuts on the bus instead
I think I’m sticking with my initial call of “Gleba sounds intimidating”
