boba (with boba)

The self-order kiosk at this tea place has a sign taped to it (paraphrased): “Dear Customers, every drink with the word boba in the title comes WITH boba. Every drink with the word jelly in the title comes WITH jelly.” lmao you can tell they’ve had a lot of issues with people ordering (extra) boba in their boba and then wondering why there was so much boba

Anyway, woo! New boba place!

To back up: I had a dentist appointment today. Due to the ongoing polar vortex, I opted to walk there through the underground walkway. I haven’t been down there since before the pandemic. (I actually had a dream during the pandemic of getting lost down there, even though my route to my old train station was mostly a straight-line path.) So it was weirdly nostalgic heading down there today. It’s endearingly gross and jank, like a scrungly old tomcat. There are open-air sections with no temperature control, so you get blasted with frigid air upon entering. There’s that one corridor that always smells like urine (and still does). Today there was a homeless man in a corner loudly and continuously burp-moaning. I gave him a wide berth.

The walkway goes through the basement of a mall (that part is well-maintained, since it’s actually part of the mall). The donut shop that moved in shortly before the pandemic is gone, but in its place, there’s a bubble tea shop. On the way back from the dentist, I stopped to get taro milk tea boba. Good stuff! They also sell savory pancakes that are street food in China. I should stop by for lunch next time I’m downtown.
