My Fitbit has been on the way out since last Labor Day, when the connection between the band and the watch face broke. I could temporarily fix it by jamming it back together, but any pressure on the band could cause it to pop back off, e.g., putting on a coat, opening a door while wearing a coat (thus causing the wrist band to bump against the coat cuff), bumping it against literally any surface, etc. It was a real pain.
I bought a new one, but I was hesitant to throw out the old one when it still worked, even if the band issues were annoying. It was getting worse over time. For the past couple weeks, it would typically break 2-3 times in the process of trying to put it on. I’ve been thinking “Maybe it’s time to switch to the new one” in a vague, noncommittal fashion.
Today I was using the restroom, and I must’ve bumped my wrist, because my Fitbit went sailing off my wrist into the toilet that I had just used and not yet flushed.

Just as well I had a new one waiting in the wings. It’s an Inspire 3, the new model. It’s got a heart rate monitor, and it can give me a daily “sleep score” rating. Pretty neat. However, it’s weirdly over-featured. Do I want notifications for texts, emails, and calendar events on my Fitbit? No?? All that junk was on by default and I had to manually go into settings to turn it off.
It’s also a bit spammy. When I start walking, after a few minutes it buzzes me to let me know I’ve started exercising. Then it buzzes me again to let me know what my pace is. Then when I sit down, it buzzes me to ask if I’ve stopped exercising. Bro it’s fine. Just count my steps.
