Used AI to code for the first time

1:25 AM

Crazy. The past 48 or so hours, I have basically just been coding with AI. Of course I would take some breaks every now and then, and even though I swore off entertainment, I would have some music or anime in the background still while I "worked".

The reason why I never used AI to code before, despite having read several articles on it and so on, is because I just have never done it before. I thought I was a good enough developer that I could just do everything on my own, why would I use AI for anything? Well, after using it for pretty much 48 hours straight (other than sleeping, breaks, and work, of course), I conclude that AI can code better than practically any human can.

AI can already make amazing works of art practically better than any human. It can also make any music practically better than any human. It can also write a book practically better than any human. So why can't it code better than practically any human? Well, it can. It literally knows how to do everything. I don't have to read any manuals or documents anymore to learn about how something works or how to apply something, AI has already mastered whatever that thing is, seriously.

I can definitely see AI replacing nearly all programming jobs in the future. I don't see why it wouldn't be able to, it can basically do everything that any human can do. Although, of course, as with the music, art, and writing that AI creates, it can make mistakes and errors, some weird abnormalities here and there, but for the most part, what it codes makes sense. I think a decent programmer should still look at what code the AI has written, to be sure that it didn't write some weird thing that has massive flaws, but other than that, its skill is remarkable. I am nothing but impressed.

Art, music, writing, programming, these are skills that might take years or even decades of education and practice to build up and develop for a human. For AI, it just knows and mastered all of these topics.

Right now, AI is actually incredibly cheap. These programming AI bots are like $20 a month. What the fuck is up with those prices? It has more skills to replace an employee that is paid a very high amount, yet it's only $20 a month, less than what that employee would make in an hour. It's the same with art AI, music AI, and writing AI, they are all only just $20 a month when their skill-sets and knowledge would replace any human being paid magnitudes more for the same work.

I don't think these cheap AI bots will be $20 a month forever. ChatGPT used to be free for unlimited use basically, and even though I had the $20 subscription already for a long time, it was not really necessary. Now free ChatGPT has limited usage, and you will have to pay $20 a month for more usage. It was required for you to have a paid subscription in order to generate images using ChatGPT, this only lasted for a few days, and then ChatGPT just made it free for everyone. Now you can still generate images for free, but again, you need a paid subscription to have unlimited chatting capabilities.

There was this AI music service I used. I paid like $200 or something to generate some music using their services. I must've generated like 200-300 songs, but ultimately only published a handful of them. I think this price was worth it, because I have hired musicians before, and it would cost like $600 to $1000 to make a single song, and admittedly the quality isn't as good as what AI can produce for a fraction of the cost. I mean back then it took effort to make a song, you had to do so much work, but AI can just do it in less than 10 seconds, for free or $20 a month. These prices make no sense.

For writing a book, even though my book was never published, I hired a ghostwriter back in 2021 and paid them $3000 to write a book for me. This was prior to AI, and I wish I had published my book back then, because now people might assume I used AI to write this book if I published the same one today. Now AI can write a book in a few minutes for $20 a month. Insane value.

For programming, hiring coders is very expensive. I have hired coders before, I am a programmer myself. Our abilities are limited based on our skill and abilities, and we are not cheap. AI however, has surpassed us, and it only costs $20 a month. Isn't that insanity?

The future is as uncertain as ever. Even me, who's usually on the latest cusp of everything, I've only just started using AI to code a few days ago. Prior to this, I wasn't aware of its capabilities. Having tested it out now, it surpasses the coding abilities of nearly every human. I'm sure there are very niche scenarios in which AI is not better than a human, but even that human would not know everything, that human may not know how to program in more than a few languages for example, while AI literally knows all of them. In that case, AI has already surpassed every single individual programmer when compared to AI.

It's the same with art. Not every artist can make so-and-so artwork, they might only specialize in one form of art. Someone that can draw realistic characters may not be able to draw any anime style characters at all. Someone who can draw characters really well, might not be able to draw any backgrounds well at all, and so on. In that case too, since AI is good at all forms of art, it has surpassed every single individual human artist. It's the same in music and writing.

If you are ever shocked in how good AI is in whatever field, imagine it being that good in any other field. Like I knew it was good in music, art, and writing, but I somehow believed its programming abilities would be lacking. It's not lacking at all, it's literally superior to every individual human on the planet.

And again, for whatever reason, right now AI is unbelievably cheap. $20 a month for unlimited coding AI? Are you fucking with me? They pay programmers six figures a year when AI can do more for $20 a month. I really don't know why it's not more popular. I'm sure many programmers have never even used AI to code with yet.

And of course, one can argue for specific scenarios, there is a small window of tasks in which humans are better at it than AI, but that window is shrinking.

I'm more fearful than ever.
