flying mode

Welcome to Flying Mode, the new Pokemon Sleep challenge mode!

Been looking forward to expert mode since it was announced. I’m enjoying making and adjusting teams on the fly and getting to use pokemon I wouldn’t normally use. However, flying twice in a row? Really?? I’m lucky I had an egg/egg Delibird that I could haul to level 30. My other flying choices are a level 14 Swablu, level 13 Rufflet, and level 15 Doduo. (Rufflet and Doduo are awful/unusable. Swablu is technically usable (berry finder @ 25) but would compete with Altaria for candy.)

Week 1: flying | normal | dragon | boost: 0% | bonus: ingredients

  • final score: 1,122,821 (Ultra 1)
  • meal: omelet curry (10 eggs, 6 tomatoes); from Friday onwards, butter curry (18 potatoes, 15 tomatoes, 12 choco, 10 milk)
  • team:
  • Candycane the L30 Delibird (eggs). then on Friday I realized I could ditch this nerd in favor of Chendol the L52 Meowscarada (potatoes)
  • Rye the L54 Raticate (triple berry)
  • Eclair the L38 Altaria (triple berry)
  • Pancake the L61 Pawmot (energy)
  • flex: Vinaigrette the L54 Victreebel (tomatoes); Cadbury the L59 Blastoise (exp, choco); Coconut the L55 Blastoise (milk); Nonya Kueh the L58 Meganium (triple berry)

Week 2: flying | dark | bug | boost: 5% | bonus: ingredients

  • final score: 1,731,962 (Ultra 4)
  • meal: butter curry (potatoes/tomatoes/choco/milk). backup: omelet curry (eggs/tomatoes)
  • team (first 20 hours):
  • Candycane the L30 Delibird (eggs)
  • Brisket the L51 Houndoom (triple berry)
  • Skittle the L51 Butterfree (triple berry; tomatoes)
  • Mentos the L30 Butterfree (triple berry; tomatoes) OR Chendol the L52 Meowscarada (potatoes)
  • Pancake the L61 Pawmot (energy)
  • team (after 20 hours):
  • Brisket the L51 Houndoom (triple berry)
  • Skittle the L51 Butterfree (triple berry, tomatoes)
  • Mentos the L30 Butterfree (triple berry, tomatoes)
  • ingredient flex: Chendol the L52 Meowscarada (potatoes) OR Cadbury the L60 Blastoise (choco) OR Coconut the L55 Blastoise (milk)
  • Pancake the L61 Pawmot (energy)
  • notes: dark/bug is a curry dream team; I can make butter curry with a single ingredient flex spot that's frequently filled by an on-element mon. we only needed two filler (non-butter-curry) meals all week.

Week 3: ice | ghost | flying | boost: 10% | bonus: skills

  • final score: 1,179,260 (Ultra 2)
  • meal: dizzy curry (11 coffee, 11 leaf, 11 honey)
  • team:
  • Scoop the L53 Walrein (triple berry)
  • Plum the L60 Gengar (leaf)
  • Candycane the L30 Delibird (ingredient bulk). after 20 hours: McIntosh the L41 Skeledirge (double berry, ingredient bulk)
  • ingredient flex: Espresso the L49 Vikavolt (coffee), Kaiser the L55 Venusaur (honey)
  • Pancake the L61 Pawmot (energy)
  • notes: flying again?? my app is broken. decided to put Gengar’s leaf production to use by debuting a new dish, dizzy curry. honestly it's a bit niche (how often will I want to run this over butter curry?) but I figure having leveled dish diversity is good.

Week 4: fire | water | electric (event lineup) | boost: 15% | bonus: ingredients

  • final score: 2,258,218 (Master 2) (fakest score ever due to all the event bonuses. it’s so good. 300k+ a day, basically a normal week’s score)
  • meal: lovely smoothie (apples/milk/honey/choco)
  • team:
  • Tonkatsu the L55 Arcanine (double berry)
  • Cob the L57 Ampharos (strength skill)
  • Calzone the L60 Raichu (triple berry)
  • flex: Smirnoff the L55 Feraligatr (triple berry, water rep), Takoyaki the L61 Raichu (triple berry, apples), Coconut the L55 Blastoise (milk), Kaiser the L55 Venusaur (honey)
  • Pancake the L62 Pawmot (energy)
  • notes: first week of the Raikou/Entei/Suicune event, featuring a broken berry lineup and various event buffs. love to see it. for week 2 of the event, we’ll be heading to Taupe to hopefully break Master 18 and get the Taupe expert unlock (assuming it’ll be the same as Greengrass). ingredients + fire were somewhat unlucky rolls (would’ve preferred berries/electric), but it’s offset by a lucky roll of desserts for meal type.

I have zero knowledge of Pokemon, I know who Pikachu is and that is pretty much it haha. But it always sounds like a lot of fun and sounds really interesting when people talk about it. Is there like an officially game or website where people all play Pokemon and like it works kind of similar to webkinz (Webkinz was this game I played as a kid where you collect these Webkinz stuffed animals and there is this online world/game and you would like enter the unique password or ID or whatever on the actual stuffed animal in and then you would have it also in the game world. I always assumed Pokemon worked the same but with cards, you collect the card and then whatever cards you have you also have them in the game? I'm not sure though that is always how I thought it worked.

@rachelrae2003 There are a lot of different pokemon games! It's a bit confusing because they aren't all collected in a single website/app. The main series games are adventure games where you play as a Pokemon trainer. Those are currently on Switch. There's also the trading card game (I used to collect the cards as a kid, I still have a binder of cards somewhere). That's just separate, you don't get anything in-game for having them.

And there's a lot of spinoff games. Pokemon Sleep (this one) is basically a sleep tracking app on your phone. You sleep with the phone near you and it tracks your sleep. Then when you wake up, you can catch pokemon based on how well you slept. You use the pokemon to raise a Snorlax (a notoriously sleepy Pokemon) by feeding him meals and berries.
