I was watching this random TikTok video of a bunch of people lined up on a bridge, there were like 20 to 30 men, and they all jumped off of it doing a backflip. I had questions like how did this group gather here in the first place, did one of them have this idea and invited all their friends? The next question was, how come they can all do backflips? Is it just a normal thing to be able to do backflips now?
I don't think I can ever do a backflip even if I dedicated my life to it. My risk aversion is too great. I'm way too afraid of breaking my spine or something to even attempt trying to back flip. One screw up and you are done. Yet this entire random group of 20 to 30 men could all back flip? What is going on?
Then Emma texted me and for some reason we are talking about keyboards and typewriters. I mention that I could type "fluently" using this keyboard layout called Dvorak. I can type using it with my eyes closed with one hard or both hands. It's a two-hand keyboard layout where they keys are set up so that you type 50/50 using both hands, instead of like 70/30 like on Qwerty (you can type a lot of words on just the left side alone with Qwerty), so typing with one hand is so much harder, but I can with either hand, with my eyes closed. She mentions that she can't even type with her eyes closed, and I mentioned that I could do it when I was like 8 or 9, shortly after my family got its first desktop computer.
She called having that talent, and I think I have to agree, because there are people who spend 20+ years on a keyboard and can't even type with their eyes closed. Some 8 or 9 year old kid who has no experience with a keyboard, could do it within a few days, weeks, within a month maybe? I don't even know, but it was really easy for me to pick up and learn it. I don't think I put in any effort. Later it took me like a couple of weeks to learn Dvorak when I was in my early to mid 20s, I learned it in 2017 so I was 23ish.
Anyway, that goes to drawing and doing backflips. I don't think I can ever draw to save my life. I'm looking at art some high school students are doing and they are blowing my mind. There are also kids doing backflips. I can't ever do a backflip, too risk-averse to even attempt it. So there you go.
Anyway, a few hours ago I was able to do 9 pull-ups and 9 chin-ups in a row, with ease. I think if I really pushed myself and went for the maximum effort, I could have done 11, that's close to my peak. I'm slowly getting to my peak again, and I think I will be able to achieve it soon and beat it. I want to be able to do 15 pull-ups and 15 chin-ups in a row.
Also my birthday is approaching close. I have so many things I want to do, need to do, before then.
I suppose talent does exist. As you said, some people pick things up way faster and easier than others do. Though I don't think things we don't have a natural talent for are necessarily impossible to achieve. So long as we want to achieve them. It's okay to not want to do that, I guess most people who don't pursue diffferent skills hold themselves back due to thinking they cannot do it rather than simply not wanting to do it. Anyways happy birthday in advance.
@Fugo Of course, I think anyone can catch up to talent with enough hard work. Thank you :)
