endless eight

Roommate is officially concerned about me playing LD. He keeps saying things like “okay, have fun, but do other things too!” …am I really that typical

Honestly, I think LD is just the shiny new toy of the moment and will soon lose its luster (just in time for inktober). The reason for the short sunset date: hunting.

To back up for a sec, WD hunting has a satisfying progression curve. Initially, you have just one hunting team that mostly hunts critters. Over time, you get better stalkers who can find bigger trails, and better chasers/finishers who can catch them, so you can reliably bring home 20-use carcasses. You also unlock the ability to send out multiple teams at once.

LD lacks this progression. Every hunt is basically a critter/small trail (1-6 food uses). There’s no way to target bigger prey; you click on random tiles and get what you get. Most importantly, you can only ever send out one team at once. This is fantastic for the economy (food sells for 9-10 sc per use, as opposed to 2-3 sc in WD) but also acts as a built-in limitation on pack size.

Back in the day, before WD let you send out multiple teams at the same time, I typically did 27-28 hunts a day. Occasionally 30 if I was on top of things. However, as a SUPER CASUAL LD player, I don’t want to check in that much. I’m thinking I’ll stick with a single hunting team. That pretty much limits me to eight adults (lead, 5 hunters, 1 pupsitter, 1 patroller).

I don’t think the game will be that exciting once I complete my pack and am no longer getting new dogs. For me, these games are all about novelty: the revolving door of breeding and training successors in WD, my constant impulse buys in FR. I have some short-term goals (glass base for traffic scone, rough ruby base for dungeon dice, ochre gnawrock for future sale) but after that, who knows? Maybe I’ll peace out until the December event.
