Back to it

10:48 PM

I played a lot of steam games again today, more than 16 hours of playing. Yeah. I uninstalled these games that I played today, 9 Kings and Slay The Spire. Both games were incredibly addicting, and are therefore not for me. Maybe I just have an addictive personality to video games, hence why it's probably best for me to just completely avoid them. It's been nearly a year since I played any games like this, and I played for over 16 hours straight. Literally. Maybe I do have some addiction personality.

I beat Slay the Spire twice. I got to the last boss several times, and I lost to them several times. I was only able to beat the last boss twice. For several hours I tried beating them with this one character, the Ironclad. It just seemed impossible, the character felt underpowered. I was able to beat the game with two other characters just fine, on my first attempt with one of them, and my second attempt on the other, I got to the final boss on my first attempt for that character too though. But The Ironclad... He's way too hard to play.

I'm sure Slay The Spire has a story, but I don't know what it is. I just played the game like an arcade game, like Pac-Man. You just pick a character and then fight your way up the tower. Why are you this random character challenging this tower, and attacking this "heart" of the tower? If there is an explanation, it was never introduced. It's just like, pick a character, now fight these random enemies on your way up this tower.

It's the same with 9 Kings. It's an addicting game, but there is no story. Just fight these other kings and that's the whole game.

There was this other game yesterday that I played and beat, called Little Misfortune. Now that was a great game. Much better than Slay The Spire and 9 Kings, in my opinion. I played that game for 6 hours yesterday (I beat it twice in order to get all the achievements), and that felt like forever. But I spent 16 hours today playing these other games and I felt like I got nothing from it. At least with Little Misfortune I could extrapolate some life lessons from that game. I got nothing from these two games I played today.

In Little Misfortune, you play as Little Misfortune, an 8 year old girl. It is a pretty dark story, especially the "eternal happiness" ending. Should I spoil what happens? Just skip this paragraph and the next if you don't want any spoilers. The ending of the game is foreshadowed within the first minute of the game, and it's that Little Misfortune will die. She lives in an abusive household, her mom says she wanted an abortion for her but it was too late. There is this one street that you cross within the first few minutes of the game, and you visit this street again two more times in the game, in the last time you encounter a police crime scene and your own body covered up, ran over by a car.

More spoilers, skip this paragraph as well if you don't want any spoilers. So apparently while Little Misfortune was having all these adventures, her physical body was here the entire time. It's not clear whether you died the first time while crossing the street, or if you died the second time while crossing the street. The second time you visit the street, you have already gone on an adventure. So what's not clear is that, if you died within the first few minutes of the game, was her entire adventure all a hallucination? Then what was up with the voice in her head that was talking to her before she died?

One last paragraph for spoilers. So in the "eternal happiness" ending, you get to see Little Misfortune's mom's reaction after she's done talking to the police. Yes she's crying and sad initially, but then she smiles looking upwards, and then the achievement "Eternal Happiness - Gave your mom eternal happiness" comes up. Her mom became eternally happy when she died. That's the deep and dark part. It's pretty sad.

Anyway, I am so sleepy now. I'd keep writing, and even talk about my day and the exercises I did. But I'm so tired. Fatigued. I'm just gonna go to sleep now.
