The weather is wack. On Friday it was 62 degrees (78 degrees in our non-air-conditioned house). On Saturday the temperature plummeted. Woke up Sunday morning to snow on the ground, more snow falling, and a winter storm warning on my phone. Got an email from Noah saying not to come in on Monday and we would meet via Zoom.
Apparently it’s also snowing at brother's place and BB is excited. “WHOA! EET NOEY”
For maximum comedic timing, we had the HVAC guy coming today for our every-six-months courtesy call to see how the AC and heater are doing. Sadly, he was NOT able to check the AC because (drumroll) IT IS TOO COLD. Call back in the spring! However, it’s possible he incidentally fixed the issue. When he first tried turning on the heat, it didn’t start, which he fixed by turning the system off (via a switch in the utility room) and then turning it back on. He theorizes a power surge conked out the whole system. So…maybe we have a working AC? Who knows! Too cold to tell!
Anyway, heating is great (except the capacitor was running under par and we got it replaced). Plumbing is also great (a different guy came in the afternoon to check on the plumbing and water heater). I learned a bunch. For instance, we’ve been using high-MERV filters in the HVAC system and replacing them every three months. The guy recommends going down to MERV 8 and replacing them every month. Higher MERV is better at picking up gunk, but the gunk restricts the system’s ability to vent heat, so it’s been running at its maximum heat tolerance.
There’s more snow in the forecast for tomorrow. By Saturday it’s going back up to 64 degrees…what is going on.
