HGR said it’s odd for me to be away from home so often, taking into account my two-week summer vacation and all the random weekends I spend visiting family.

I said I didn’t think it was odd. If anything, I leave home less frequently than most people. At our weekly meetings, Noah typically opens with “Anyone do anything fun last weekend?” and it’s common that someone went out of town for a friend’s wedding or just a weekend getaway.

“Those are normies,” HGR said patiently.

I’m doing the normie thing and visiting family for Christmas. Mom & Dad are driving up Tuesday afternoon and picking me up on the way. Christmas presents: Mom and Dad get a painting of the peach tree in their backyard (an improved re-paint of my picture from September). Brother and his wife get an ink-and-wash of daddy spiral, mommy spiral, and BB spiral. BB gets a book, Snow Kid. None of the presents are wrapped. It’s fine.

I spent a long time deciding what to paint for brother. Since Mom & Dad are getting personalized art, I felt I should also make brother something personal, rather than random landscape #27. But I don’t know his interests lately. He always talks about his job, his new house, and BB…maybe those are his interests. Point is, we’ve grown apart. I eventually decided to go with a family pic (and it’s dragons because I like dragons). In a roundabout way, it was inspired by BB’s way of referring to large, medium, and small items, e.g., if he has a large, medium, and small triangle, they are the dada triangle, mama triangle, and BB triangle. I did the drawing + painting yesterday, let it dry overnight, and stuck it in the frame this morning. WOO CHRISTMAS PREP COMPLETE.
