sleep & exile

Oh man I really was super tired. I overslept until 9:55 am. For perspective, I pretty much always wake up at 8-something. In this work-from-home era, I’m getting consistent, adequate sleep for the first time in my life. It’s so good. It means I generally don’t need to sleep in, even on weekends. Occasionally I sleep past 9, but sleeping until nearly 10 is like a once-a-year thing. Thankfully my job is not strict about desk time. As long as I answer emails and get my work done, everyone is chill.

Yesterday, I started playing Path of Exile 2 with HGR. I’m a mercenary (crossbow dude); HGR is a sorceress with like 3x my dps. Trust HGR to pick an ace build right off the bat. Or maybe trust me to pick a bad build, or a bit of each. We’re at the end of Act I. So far the game feels exactly like the original PoE, except with flashier player skills. That’s fine. I liked the original PoE and I like flashy player skills.

Apparently Discord popped up a notif that I was playing PoE2. “What the FUCK?” said newbie.

“What’s wrong with Path of Exile 2?” I said.

“I’M NOT IN THERE WITH YOU, THAT’S WHAT.”

Rip newbie. He started his own playthrough this evening. I watched him stream a bit of it. He’s a monk with elemental magic. Until I watched him playing, I didn’t realize you could mix and match skills from different classes. This opens up so many options and frankly I have no idea what I should do now. That’s a hallmark of the PoE series: an incredible wealth of customization, which is very cool but also intimidating if you want to pick-up-and-play without thinking too hard about your build.
