Our pack leader Rubicon died this morning. When he didn't return from a fishing trip, the scouts went searching for him and found his body. It appears he got into a fight with a fox (that boy loved fighting foxes every chance he got) who slew him and took his tail as a trophy. RIP.
So Levi has ascended to pack leader. His first act was to order a rescout of all the surrounding lands. He did this mostly to troll Raubritter, who is a hunter now but likes to go on about how he scouted the whole world in his younger days. A full rescout is a big undertaking, but our senior scout Akinori is willing to indulge his younger brother, and our junior scout Mireya is hyped to explore the world. We first moved to the taiga so the scouts would have room to explore both north and south. Plus we have easy tundra access for food and easy glacier access for Akinori's training regimen.
Even though taiga hunting is technically easier than rainforest hunting, it's debatable whether we're getting more food. In the rainforest, we found critter trails and we hunted critter trails and mostly caught them. In the taiga, Carob will say "GUYS it's a medium trail" (37% chance of success) and the squad will be like "YEAH LET'S GO" and come home with nothing. The junior hunt squad, Ghost River, is having a particularly rough time of it; Lunar Dynamo, who joined 5 days ago, has a hunt success rate of 15 out of 50. (This is what happens when your stalker is way better than your finisher.) It's fine. They're not the primary breadwinners for the pack. They're out there having fun and learning teamwork and that's what really matters.
