[Lysander’s tale (Eternal Winter pt. 2)]
As adolescents, Lysander and his best friend Arquebus ran away from home to be travelers like Julep. They journeyed north to the land of eternal winter, where they met Nasario, runaway from the Sharpstone Pack. The three of them traveled together, an incorrigible trio against the world.
Their partnership did not last. Lysander made an ill-advised jape about Nasario's family. Nasario left in a huff. There was a storm that night, and afterwards, Lysander and Arquebus could find no trace of their friend.
"I hope he's okay," said Arquebus.
"He's fine," said Lysander confidently (more confidently than he felt). "He came all the way here by himself as a pup. He's super tough. He's fine."
Not long after that, Lysander and Arquebus were attacked by an ice warg. (Strange wolf-like creatures live in the land of eternal winter, where time's ravages are stilled. No one knows their true name. Lysander dubbed them wargs for their battle scream, "waaargggh!!") The two adolescents fled, and split up during the pursuit. Lysander eventually managed to escape...but he was alone. At least, he thought, the warg chased after him instead of Arquebus, so she should be safe. Right?
With no companions, the adventure quickly lost its luster. Lysander spent a few fruitless days searching for Arquebus, then reluctantly began the long journey south, back to his home.
As it turned out, all three adventurers eventually made it to the Sun Stealers' den. Nasario was the first; both Lysander and Arquebus had regaled him with tales of their home pack, and Nasario thought it seemed like a good place to settle down and make a name for himself. Because of time slippage, Lysander came back a couple years later (still an adolescent), and Arquebus returned a couple years after that (also still an adolescent). At last the dynamic trio was reunited.
For better or for worse, their tales of adventure inspired and excited the pack's pups, and some have run away to find the land of eternal winter for themselves. Thus far, it seems as if only pups and adolescents can enter that mysterious land; Nasario searched the glacier for years as head scout, but never found a way back, and neither have any of our other glacier scouts.
