- Autumn, Year 2 - We were surprised to find the alpha female hunting with her two sons and the new, young female today. Although the alpha did spend a short time hunting solo after the pups were old enough to remain on their own, she has primarily stuck to scouting the packs territory; occasionally bringing back toys and trinkets to entertain the family.
We can only theorize the reason. Most likely driven by a need for food over the coming winter, she may have felt the need to hunt with the struggling youngsters. Although the three were working better together, they were still failing as many hunts as succeeding. And although their mother has experience, the balance between the team has been disrupted again—dangerously close to winter. Hopefully the alpha’s instincts prove productive for the family.
