a walk and the passage of time

Got to work this morning and tried to use my house key on the office door. Not the first time I’ve done this in recent months. Gonna chalk it up to muscle memory instead of a weird Freudian slip.

At lunchtime I took a walk and was newly struck by how magnificent this city is. I used to do this walk every morning. (But I was also constantly sleep-deprived, every afternoon was a struggle to stay awake, I didn’t get to enjoy listening to music and the morning sunlight in my condo…)

For lunch I couldn’t decide whether to get poke or curry. I went to the pokeshop north of work and found it shuttered and barred. I went to the curry shop on the back half of the block and found it apparently went out of business and has been replaced by a new establishment. I thought about the Indian place in the old food court, but the food court is down for renovation, and anyway I doubt that place survived the pandemic. Getting lunch around here is hard. Finally I went to the Indian chain a few blocks south and got a curry bowl and samosas. Good stuff. Happy ending. Hope they don’t shut down too; I was the only customer there.

It's wild how quickly time is passing. A couple days ago I got contacted by my boss about a project I thought was safely on the backburner, since the next meeting is in October. I was surprised, then realized it’s almost October. Dang. Soon I’ll have to adjust my afternoon nap/walk schedule so I’m not doing my daily walk in darkness.
