takeout woes

Saw Mack as I was getting on the elevator this morning. Guess we’re both still here, eh? Also, Brandon’s a senior in high school? Really?? He’s currently applying to college. Best of luck—I never got to really hang out with him but I was always rooting for him, you know.

Getting lunch around here continues to be more challenging than it used to be. I first went to the Thai stall at the new food court, but they were restocking and I didn’t feel like standing around for 20 minutes waiting for them to cook more. Then I went to my favorite Chinese place and found they closed down noooo. RIP. They made it through the darkest days of 2020-21, but they couldn’t quite make it to 2023.

So I wound up going to the pokeshop and getting a volcano bowl, which is great as always, but I’m still craving Chinese food. Google says there’s a Chinese place a few blocks away, tucked into an alleyway. I’ll check it out next week. Other than that, pickings are slim. There’s Twilight's favorite restaurant a few blocks north (promising), and then like four Panda Expresses (gross). Cannot believe Panda Express is still in business when my favorite place had like twice the portion sizes and twice the flavor and is gone.

edit (1/11): Chinese food get! This place is genuinely a hole in the wall, down a tiny alleyway past a bunch of darkened shopfronts. Never would’ve stumbled across this place without Google. I got the orange chicken and noodles. Portion sizes are huge, as advertised. The orange chicken is good, but the noodles are meh. Gonna take them home and stir-fry with an egg and add some sweet chili sauce.

edit (1/11, 5:30 pm): oh nooo I left my leftovers in the office fridge. I don’t think they can keep an entire week (especially since the office fridge is, er, dubious) and I’m not doing a two-hour commute just to retrieve them so, rip.
