self-care self-haircut

For the past month or so, my hair has been obnoxiously long and getting in my eyes. Two weekends ago, I intended to find a local place that does walk-in haircuts, but instead I spent the whole weekend on Project C. Last weekend I was dealing with the aftermath of Project C and more generally did not feel like leaving the house.

Instead, last night, I gave myself a haircut. This was one of the biggest perks of pandemic life and I’m bringing it back. Hair too long? Grab some scissors. Boom, now it’s not. It’s not a professional job, but I think it’s decent.

This morning, roommate (who stayed up all night playing video games) side-eyed my haircut hard. “You look seriously unkempt,” he said.

Well, you know. I still feel much better with my hair out of my eyes and I’m still counting it as a win.

edit (2/12):

This morning, roommate peered at me skeptically. “Did you do something to your face? It looks weird lately.”

“No,” I said.

I explained I cut my hair. Then we got into an argument about whether cutting one’s hair counts as doing something to one’s face.

I have tried cutting my hair a few times before, and it always turned out badly. It does save $30, but the $30 is worth it for a good haircut over a bad one. Whether a haircut is changing your face or not, both arguments work. The literal argument is that changing the hair does not touch the face at all which is true, but the other argument is that it still changes how a person's face looks, which is also true.

@JustMegawatt Oh yeah, I definitely agree the money is worth it. I just have been very busy lately. Compounding the issue, I don't actually know a good local haircut place...I usually just get it done when I visit my parents, but things have been so hectic here I don't know when I'll get a chance to visit.
