Started New VR Fitness Game LesMill's BodyCombat

7:01 AM (of Friday, May 1st, 2026)

Today is Thursday, April 30th, 2026, and I started this new game called LesMill's BodyCombat for VR today. It was probably around 3 AM that I installed it, although I don't really remember. I may have bought it at like 11 PM of yesterday, but it took a few hours for the several gigabytes to download and install.

This game is a million times better than Beat Saber. I mainly played Beat Saber as a workout app. I reached a high level of skill in that game, but not the highest level. I've not been able to pass all of the Camellia songs consistently, although I have beaten a few of them a handful of times, and I fail at a lot of the new difficult levels too. But Beat Saber isn't really a workout app. It's more skill-based. And once you get really good, does it even matter? Does being good at Beat Saber transfer to any other skill in real life?

With LesMill's BodyCombat, I found the best workout app. I want to interrupt because it sounds like this is an advertisement for this game or something, but I am not paid nor did anyone contact me. This is literally just my journal entry on how much I like this new game I started.

This game is similar to Beat Saber, but instead of slashing at blocks, you are punching, uppercutting, hook punching, or elbowing the targets, and the harder and faster you punch the more points that you get. You also stand in a fighting stance, and also bob and weave to dodge different obstacles. So this game is literally about fighting. The punches, hooks, uppercuts, knees, are all applicable to outside of this game.

My arms are actually sore from playing this game. I burned over 750 calories yesterday playing this game for 1 hour and 20 minutes, according to the game itself. On my Apple Watch I have 2 hours of exercising recorded for the day and over 1000 calories burned, but maybe I recorded some other activities other than this game on my watch. There's no way to add a description of the exercise as far as I'm aware, so all my exercises are just "Mixed Cardio", so I don't exactly know what I was doing in each one.

You just punch so much in the game. You are constantly punching left, right, uppercut, below, elbow strike, knee strike, etc. When I first installed this game, after doing the tutorials, the very first exercise I did was one of the hardest ones. I just felt like I could do it. It was a 22 minute high intensity session, and whew, that workout was amazing. I continued to play the game for another hour after that, throughout the rest of the day.

Now my arms are sore because they're not so used to punching. My upper arms and ribcage area are sore. Same for my "waist" or "core" area, I guess from all the bobbing and weaving. It's pretty awesome.

This game is not teaching you how to fight or anything, but my punches being improved can be helpful in the real world. Of course it wouldn't help if I were knocked out instantly, because my face is not used to being hit, so a sufficient enough punch can knock out anyone no matter how fast or strong they are in punching. At least with these exercises, my punching stamina and power are trained and improved. If a time comes that I have to trade blows with someone, I would at least have some punching and bobbing and weaving reflexes trained. This is much better than not being trained at all.

I really like how it gives you more points the faster and harder you punch. It tracks the velocity of your strike. My straight punches don't even reach 100 on the power strike meters, they reach like 70 or so, so that tells me my strongest and hardest punches have a long way to go. For the hook punches though, my strikes always reach 95 or higher, with 100 being the most common score. This tells me that my hooks are probably very powerful, at least they are according to this game's calculations. It's weird because I put so much more power into my straight punches over my hooks, and yet my hooks score higher than my straights.

Anyway it was a great day today. I'm tired. I'm pretty sore. My shoulder area and upper back. The muscles used for punching, are very sore. I can barely throw a punch right now because there's soreness when I do.

Oh yeah, I think Billie Eillish said today or yesterday that "you can't love animals if you eat meat", I do agree with her. But she can be more specific "you can't claim to love animals while you pay to have them tortured and killed for you, while you have their corpses in your fridge and plate, you can just easily choose to not hurt or kill any of them"
