crested challenge

May 16-31 is the crested challenge, in which you have to breed 20 cubs with crested manes. I expected this to be a nightmare, considering how hard it was to get just three albino cubs last December. Consider: if you breed BLSC x BLSC, there are five possible outcomes (albino, birch, eggshell, isabel, white). If you breed crested x crested, there are four possible outcomes (crested, razor, regent, scarce). Additionally, I don’t have any crested females, so I just bred random females to my crested lead.

It turned out fine. Crested passes easily. We got a total of 72 cubs from 46 litters (1.56 cubs/litter), with manes as follows:

  • crested: 26
  • razor: 5
  • regent: 3
  • scarce: 17
  • other: 21

The crested cubs comprised 36% of the total cubs, and 51% of the crested-plus-crested-fail cubs. Based on this data, I’m guessing the crested/razor/regent/scarce odds from crested parents are 50/10/10/30.

Compare this to our albino statistics: 156 cubs from 107 litters, of which 80 were BLSC, and 3 were albino. The crested challenge is way more chill—higher requirements, but also higher odds, so it’s less swingy. We got at least one crested cub every day. Feels better to make consistent slow progress instead of getting nothing day after day.

Insultingly, we also got TWO albino cubs (one from golden x golden, one from golden x cream). One of them was female. We’re keeping her until December lmfao.

So smooth boyjazz is great at passing crested and spawning random albinos, but he’s terrible at passing mngwa. During this challenge, he bred to 2 golden mngwas (10%), 8 golden goddesses (7%), and 2 non-golden goddesses (5%), and got no mngwas. His guaranteed dorsal fur cub will be his first mutie born in the pack. Guess I can’t blame him for throwing all his luck into the challenge, but hopefully he picks it up from now on.
