Clarity For The Day

I saw a video today that gave a really good idea: to wake up with a purpose for the day. Most days I wake up and don't have anything planned for that day, other than what's scheduled such as work or other things that are due. I exercise a little, do some brain training, work for the day if it's a work day, do some vegan activism on social media, and that's my day usually. No purpose.

Today will be different, I have to catch up on my finances and then send anything my tax advisor needs to file my taxes. I still haven't done it yet, he said he filed for an extension back in April though. Anyway, I need to do that right now, so that will be my purpose for the day. Other secondary tasks for the day is to exercise and probably run for an hour at least, and then to do some work today. I actually haven't run in a while because I wasn't able to. I tried jogging the other day but my body could not do it. I think it was due to running for like an hour daily last week, doing the Norwegian 4x4 or 4x3 Intervalo, from zero running. Another way to train running is the Maffetone method, which is just running in Zone 2 for as long as possible. Both work. I think I fatigued my body by going too hard too fast.

I will probably just do Maffetone method for an hour tonight on the treadmill. That's probably running at 4.5 miles per hour I think. I need to keep my heart rate below 140 for an hour, maybe two hours if I can last that long. Anyway we'll see what happens.

But yeah the priority for the day is to complete my finances. For work, I have completed pretty much everything already, and there's nothing pressing that's pending or due at the moment, there will be tomorrow and Friday, but for today, nothing is urgent. So I can work on my own tasks. I am a contractor so I only sign the amount of hours that I work, if I don't work during these hours and work on my own thing, then I can't sign off those hours.

I made a rule too, that I will just publish my entry at the end of the day, whatever it is.

I did not do what I set out to do today. I fell asleep a few times, I was backing up CDs and working on work related things instead of working on my finances. So I procrastinated. This is a weakness for me. I need to set my intention to truly get to work again tomorrow.

One sort of impressive thing I did today though, is 3 sets of standing shoulder press 15 reps with 35 pounds. It's been years since I last did any shoulder presses. A few days ago, I went over to the gym twice, only two times, to do shoulder presses again, because my friend AD said that his workplace does a fitness test and doing a 15kg (33 pounds) shoulder press 15 times gives you the highest score, or something like that. I mean it's not hard at all, and I told him that, but he said it was a hard one. What?

So anyway, a few days ago I went to the gym again, and I did 25 pounds shoulder press x 10 or whatever, and that was hard. I did 3 sets of that. That was hard. It's been years since I last did any shoulder presses, and I do admit even doing 25 pounds was pretty difficult. Then I went to the gym again the next day, and did 25 pounds x 15 or something like that, I think. And skip a couple of days, and we get to today, and I just did 35 pounds x 15 for 3 sets, and it was easy. It barely took any effort. I told him this was muscle memory, that I was able to do this weight years ago pretty easily, and it just takes a few sessions of "warming up" again to build up to that previous level.

But yeah, I think I should continue practicing the shoulder press and other exercises.

I had a great day today. I had a good work meeting today, I got a decent amount of work done too. Overall a very nice day. I wanted to run today, but I ended up not running today. I did go to the treadmill initially at the gym, and I played around with the settings and set it up to do Norwegian 4x4s, it was an option on there as some cardio exercise, but it never increased the speed ever. I was walking for 8 minutes straight and it never increased the speed, so I just stopped after that. The treadmills in Mexico were better, they appropriately had the 4x3 interval that adjusted speed automatically.

After that I went to Wal-Mart and I bought some fruits and some kombucha, and non-dairy ice cream (vegan). It's pretty late right now, and kombucha has some caffeine, which is why I didn't drink any yet. Maybe I will eat some ice cream though? Maybe not. I am not even sleepy.

Oh yeah, but someone put their number into the self-checkout and left it, and I took over it. After paying, it said "Thank you Binoy, your receipt has been texted to you" or it said something like that, maybe it gave the message to text it to Binoy, and I'm like, wait I'm not Binoy. Then the screen disappeared before I could select any option. So I walked up to the receipt checker at the entrance and told him I don't have any receipt but I did pay for it. He said that's fine and just let me through. I really don't know what happened there.

Anyway, overall a good day today.
