june art log

Achaius

The May themes in the art server were urban landscapes + pen, literally the perfect combo. It’s therefore embarrassing that I didn’t go outside to sketch a single time all month. Many days I didn’t even have the energy to step outside and take a perfunctory walk around the block, although I enjoyed it whenever I did. RIP my “go outside” streak.

For June, the themes are plants + mixed media, a great duo, both singly and together. Excited about this one. Gonna log my art for the month. Logging rules: I put down anything I consider a “finished piece” (the bar for this is not high). If I don’t have any finished pieces for a particular day, I’ll just record whatever art I did.

  • June 1-2, 15: Watercolor floral + colored pencil detailing. Loose background wash with salt, green/yellow/orange/purple palette. Added more watercolor a couple weeks later to fix the color balance.
  • June 2: Weekly meeting doodle in pen + highlighter. Spirals & coneflowers.
  • June 3: Birthday card for BB. Cupcake, strawberries, and blueberries done in watercolor + pen + colored pencil (for text & sprinkles).
  • June 4: Pen sketch of a guy swinging a sledgehammer at a robot. Inspired by a spambot/scambot in the art server.
  • June 4-5: Gift art for BB. Companion piece to the birthday card. Cupcake houses, blueberry car, various backyard foliage & ice cream cones. Watercolor + pen.
  • June 6: Pen + crayon sketches. Alligators, house.
  • June 7: Pen + crayon sketches. Rocket, planets, ice cream.
  • June 8: Pen + crayon sketches. Multicolored shapes.
  • June 9: Marker + watercolor floral. Variety of flowers (some referenced), variety palette. Enjoying using water on non-waterfast media.
  • June 10: Marker. Houses & trees inside a vaguely dog-like silhouette.
  • June 10-11: Marker + pen + pencil shading. Full-page drawing of a giant flying mecha shrimp boss (red and cyan) and smaller flying shrimp.
  • June 11: At meeting. Marker sketch of trees, buildings, slimes. Rocking the tomato palette. pop pop
  • June 12: Marker doodle of a purple spiral.
  • June 13: In-raid doodle. Green sprout Ditto with flowers. Pen + marker + colored pencil.
  • June 13-14: Green brontosaurus and tiny flying plesiosaurs (nature fairies) in a field of flowers. Marker + pen + colored pencil.
  • June 14-15: Plant creatures in pen + marker + colored pencil.
  • June 16: Watercolor tree against a muddy pink sunset background. Green foliage, oranges. Loosely based on Sarah Cray’s Pink Green Tree. (First time doing one of the journal projects since…April?)
  • June 17: Miscellaneous doodles in pen + marker. Sunset tree, a blue spiral, mushrooms and fairies, balloons.
  • June 18: Rainbow octopi-ghosts in pen + marker + watercolor.
  • June 19: Watercolor of various fruits. Based on Sarah Cray’s Citrus Grove, but mine are leaning more peach than citrus.
  • June 20: Watercolor of blossoming spring branches. Inspired by Sarah Cray’s Loose Flowers & Leaves, though mine leans towards “actual tree branches” instead of “patterned floral composition.”
  • June 21: Mini watercolor landscapes (approx. 1.2 x 1.5 inches):
  • Cactus in the desert at sunset. Based on a EmJ tutorial.
  • Mountains & a river running through a field, also at sunset.
  • June 22: Mini watercolor landscape (approx. 1.5 x 2 inches). Diagonal rows of pine trees. Soft, desaturated, misty.
  • June 23: Weekly meeting doodle in pen + colored pencil (added later). Lily of the valley with ghost flowers (boo).
  • June 24: Pen sketches of a slightly fluffy t-rex and an okapi.
  • June 25: Watercolor of citrus (pink-purple) and arugula-like leaves (pink-green).
  • June 25-26: Sketch of daffodils and bees. Pen + marker + colored pencil.
  • June 27: Mixed media doodles (pen + marker + colored pencil, variously). Spiral, jellyfish, earthworm, Bub-esque dinosaur.
  • June 28: Got a box of crayons! Floral design in crayon + watercolor background wash. Experimental piece, not sure I vibe with this media combination but it was fun.
  • June 29: Doodle of a tree in crayon over watercolor. Testing layering.
  • June 30: Zoom meeting doodle. Marker + crayon. Chamomile & a brontosaur
