the essence of martial mastery

Finally beat Red Hot and Deep Blue! Now we are free, except not really, because we’ll have to reclear next week. It’s quite late in the tier to be looking for a stage 2 taxi…look, I bet the taxi bros didn’t have a static member suddenly develop an autoimmune disorder and take a three-month medical hiatus.

Now we’re on to the “so cool” Tyrant. First impressions from the team:

HGR: a third-stage fight with stacking and spreading……

Chill: he’s not that cool. he’s trying too hard.

newbie: why did I pot

Ruminations on personal growth: Sometimes I forget I’m capable of self-improvement. I think of my skill levels as fixed, which is not the case. For instance, in Deep Blue phase 1, we stack/spread based on the location of the wave, then run to the boss for relative clocks/proteans. Once, I would have found this challenging. Now it’s effortless. (I don’t even have my camera pointed relative north at that point. It’s relative west because our light party is on the east side, and I need to re-target the boss as soon as he jumps back in.)

I remember waaay back when we were doing Nael van Darnus, in the latter part of the fight we had to reorient north for Heavensfall, and that was a completely novel concept for me. I still have a post-it note at my desk at work reminding myself how to reorient north. Absolutely wild. (Granted, our markers were wonky in that fight. We did not have a marker north; we had south, northeast, and northwest in an equilateral triangle.) But man, I can’t imagine. “Reorient north” is just such a basic call in every single fight.
