Temporary Events

8:09 AM

Whenever I post something online, like let's say a video, it might take several hours to record and edit this video, the decisions I make while editing the video seem temporary, when in reality they are permanent. For example let's say there's two text colors I can choose from for the title, one is red, and the other is blue. During the time of working on this decision, it feels like I have full control and have unlimited time to work on choosing red or blue. After I choose a color though, it still feels like I can go in there and redo the color anytime I want to, but that's only true temporarily, until the video is published.

Where am I going with this? Even when the video is published, it still feels like I can just take down the video, edit the video to change the color if I wanted. However, in reality, this isn't the case. It's a permanent decision, even if it feels like a decision we can undo at any time.

I just realize this is the case for everything. We do literally have the power to upload the same video we uploaded 5 years ago, again, but it's kind of rare that we do that.

This just applies in every day life situations, let's say social situations. It kind of feels like at that moment you are with someone, that you can always undo anything you say to them or redo anything with them. In reality, every moment is fleeting.

The entries I wrote last year, it feels like to me that I can just go in there and edit them, updating them with more detail and future experience. But in reality, I can't. I barely even remember last year anymore. Heck, I rarely remember a few months ago.

My point and realization in all this is that going back to edit things is mostly an illusion. We should treat every action and decision as permanent, because they are.
