FINALLY evolved my Axew! With 811 km, he's now at the head of the fitness club leaderboard. (Though, as I mentioned, I think the game's accounting is somewhat glitched. 124 candy x 5 km should be 620 km. I don't know if I'm getting extra recorded distance, or if I'm getting shorted on candy.)

Hopper the Electrike became best buddy #11 over Thanksgiving weekend. Dad traded me a Pawniard (250 km to evolve), so he'll be my buddy for the next month or so, and then I'll get to the new Kalos pokemon. Feels good to have a proper buddy queue again.
